In recent years, we have seen a significant increase in anxiety and depression among the youth of our local community. Families are navigating new and uncharted territory in managing increasingly high demands placed on our young people. Very often, positive principled and value driven voices in our children’s lives are drowned out by competing influences that can confuse and stress even the most well- meaning of households. We see all too often the ill effects of this dilemma. We hear almost daily, “someone should do something”. This is why “Community Connect” was born. The Community Connect collaboration project is a direct response to struggles that families are experiencing right here in the West Community. Our initiative goes beyond the dissemination of information and resources, although we will do that with local professionals and experts in a variety of fields facilitating parent discussions. Our end in mind is to build a community of parents who are educated on topics they find most relevant. Community Connect seeks to connect those adults in such a way that they form strong relationship and can support one another. We need community, we need supportive and safe places to learn and discuss. We need connection. That is the goal of Community Connect.
